Derby shoes (called also in Poland, English women) are characterized by the so-called open vamp or open lacing. The vamp is the part that covers the toes and the metatarsus, and the quarters (here are the holes for the laces) are the part of the shoe that covers the foot from the heel to the middle part, where it meets the vamp. With open lacing (derby shoes), the quarters are sewn on top of the vamp. Shoes with open lacing - derby shoes, English shoes - are considered less formal than those with closed lacing (so-called oxfords or wien shoes).
Derby shoes - universal elegance
Derby style shoes, sometimes also called English shoes, are one of the most popular footwear models for men in Europe. They are characterized by the fact that the sides of the shoe are called linings or quarters are sewn on top of the upper. Shoes with open lacing - derby shoes - are considered less formal than those with closed lacing (so-called oxfords or wien shoes). This results in a better fit and a slightly more relaxed character, especially compared to Oxfords. Men's derby shoes have only three to five pairs of eyes, which significantly affects the ease of putting them on. Due to the fact that they are very comfortable and can perform many functions, this type of footwear should be in every man's wardrobe.
Derby shoes, i.e. English shoes with a high upper, are also becoming more and more popular.
Derby - shoes with a long history
The history of derby shoes is not fully known, but it is known that it dates back to the nineteenth century. The origin of the name cannot be fully explained, but there is a legend that it comes from the name of the Earl of Derby, who lived two centuries ago and who had problems with putting on his shoes quickly due to his corpulence. A shoemaker came to his aid and designed shoes with a comfortable cut. Since then, derby shoes have become increasingly popular in England and, over time, throughout Europe. Currently, these are one of the most popular models of men's shoes, worn for less formal occasions, although still classic and elegant.
Men's derby shoes - what occasions are they best suited for?
Compared, for example to Oxford shoes, derby shoes are relatively casual footwear that for a long time were worn as a slightly more elegant version of sneakers or other sports footwear. Nowadays, however, they are increasingly used as dress shoes. The formal version is available when they have a thin leather sole. If we want to wear them to an official party or a more formal meeting, remember that the model we wear should be as minimalist as possible, uniform in color and have as few decorations as possible.
The Classic Buty online store offers many types and models of derby shoes. Made of high-quality leather, they are available in many colors, so this is an offer both for people who are looking for elegant shoes for semi-formal events, and for those who want to use them every day. You can find derby shoes in black, in various shades of brown, burgundy, navy blue, and even with uppers in two colors or in two types of leather, e.g. suede and grain leather.
Due to their versatility, ease removable and exceptional comfort, men's derby shoes are perfect for various circumstances.
